Track Leader

Ronald Verbeek

Ronald Verbeek works at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Directorate-General for Energy and Telecommunications, where he has been involved in the ICT policy area for almost ten years. Over the years he has acted as project- and program manager on issues as diverse as ICT-security, (digital) media and broadcasting policy and ICT as enabler in (semi-)public sectors. Ronald was responsible for the Dutch IT-Agenda 2008-2011. During 2008 he was also a temporary member of the management team of the department for ICT policy and Applications. This year the focus of his activities has been on ICT and Energy, which has become one of the prime issues on the agenda of his Directorate-General.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs is responsible for both the general ICT policy and Energy policy areas. As such the Ministry is very much interested in issues such as sustainable energy production, reduction of CO2 emissions and the use of ICT as an enabler of energy efficiency throughout the economy and society. All of these issues, and more, will be covered by the Energy track. On these issues the Netherlands have some world-class best practises to share, and there is also much still to learn from achievements by others from across the globe. WCIT 2010 presents a great opportunity to address these issues and share the best practices.
