About Mr. Bill Thompson

Bill Thompson is a pioneer of new media in the UK and has provided strategic advice and hands-on expertise to a range of organisations during nearly thirty years working in computing, journalism and online. These range from the UK Government through Arts Council England, the BBC and Channel 4 to small organisations like Britten Sinfonia, Cambridge Film Festival and the Working for an MP Partnership, which runs the w4mp.org site for the staff of MPs. In 1995 he built and managed the first website for The Guardian, where he established the paper's new media lab.

As an independent journalist and consultant Bill is a respected commentator on the emerging digital world in print, online and on radio and television and a popular blogger. He is currently working in the BBC Archive Development team to establish partnerships with major cultural institutions to work on the issues around digitisation and access to archive material.
