Mrs. Victoria Stanley Project Officer - World Bank
Sharing Space - Keynote Speech
ICT and Good Land Governance - examples from Eastern Europe and Central Asia - and Challenges for the Future
The World Bank supports many projects throughout the world focused on improving land administration and management and better sharing of space. In the Europe and Central Asia Region (ECA) the Bank has supported 39 projects in 22 countries and lent US$1.2 billion since 1990. Why - because land and property represent the wealth of individuals and nations and it is important to have a reliable and trusted system in place to record property rights.
The purpose of these projects has been to reduce corruption and improve land governance; improve service delivery; and improve data quality. ICT has been an important tool to support all three goals. The future of the Banks work in the region includes increasing focus on geo-information for improved spatial planning, environmental protection, disaster management and e-government.
