eGovernment: Challenged - Keynote Speech

The Power of Technology to change Government and Business - by working together!

Society in many Western countries is already being visibly impacted by the ubiquitous availability of technology touching every aspect of life whether as a citizen, an employee, or employer, but perhaps most of all as a Government. The expectations of the society that the Internet, Web and increasingly the Cloud of ‘services’ will support are high, but the challenges of delivery are even higher. The possibility for public and private partnership to address this is increasingly visible but is the extent of the agenda for change clear?

“Today, after the crisis, many governments will have to reshape their operation and ways of working to keep their local and international economy running. Normal saving actions and cost cutting will not be enough in the face of even more disruptive change. A starting point that could lead to billions of savings is the outsourcing of the huge portfolio of Government applications and packages but the extent of the partnership will have to go far beyond this. Outsourcing, or co-sourcing has often proved to be difficult for Government organisations but increasingly good practice is understood, cases studies exist, and reports confirm the key elements; in the Public –Private partnership lies the future.
