About Mr. Nico Westpalm van Hoorn

Nico Westpalm van Hoorn is former Chief Information Officer at the Port of Rotterdam and Chairman of the National Standardization Committee.

Port of Rotterdam develops and operates the Port of Rotterdam. After the crises we certainly will see an increase in world trade and the consequent rise in throughput. The Port of Rotterdam, close to deep sea and with many hinterland connections has a perfect position and yet many challenges in accommodating the forecast expansion.

The focus in the coming years will be on:
•Strengthening our competitive position
•Maintaining safe and efficient ship handling
•Promote interoperability between partners in the logistic chain
•Promote through smart mobility, the free flow of goods through our Port and into the hinterland
•Port of Rotterdam - could not be succesfull without a strong contribution of ICT.

Through its Port Community Portal Port Base, Port of Rotterdam enables a secure, and low cost flow of information between partners in the logistic chain, both inbound and outbound.

With commercial transport parties and government organisations, PoR is working on mobility solutions for traffic management systems and to improve "modal split" (less road transport, more train and barge transport).
