About Prof. Dr. Ir. Nico Baken

Professor Baken currently holds a part-time chair in the Telecommunications Department at Delft University of Technology alongside his primary position as Visionary and Senior Strategist Corporate Strategy & Innovation of the Royal KPN.
His main interest concerns Broadband Networks and Services, dealing with Next Gen Networks, Fiber to the Home, financial strategies e.g. the Real Option Analysis, managerial complexity and regulations. Recently, he introduced new concepts such as trans-sectoral innovation, City Architects, "Streetlight" and Smart Living to enhance and accelerate ict-applications in and across sectors. In a co-operation between KPN, TNO and several Universities, comprising a group of 12 PhD's, the Dutch Research Delta and TRANS have been founded.
Nico Baken was born on the 2nd of July '55 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He finished Gymnasium β in '73 and gradua¬ted, cum laude, in mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology in 1981. He published over 50 papers, holds several patents and won several prizes for his scientific work, e.g. the Dr Neher Laboratory prize for the most outstanding researcher. He received his Ph D from the Delft University of Technology; the thesis concerned Computational Modelling of Integrated Optical Waveguides and Circuits.
