Surfnet

General introduction
SURFnet is the National Research & Education Network (NREN) organisation of the Netherlands. SURFnet develops and provides innovative services for education and research in the field of network infrastructure, authentication and authorisation as well as online multimedia collaboration services. SURFnet provides these services to over one million users in higher education and research in the Netherlands.

SURFnet is part of SURF, the collaborative organisation for higher education institutions and research institutes which are together working on breakthrough innovations in ICT.

Reason for our participation
Security is an important issue for our affiliated institutions. We support safe internet use by providing information and working with them to increase their digital security. We also help create their CERT teams, which we support and assist with information (SURFcert) and various unique security products.

In the field of security, SURFnet is proud of
    * The security campaign ‘Cybersave Yourself’, which SURFnet launched in 2009 in collaboration with 24 higher education institutions. The aim of the campaign is to increase the awareness of higher education instructors, employees and students about how to safely work with information, computers and networks.
    * SURFcert, SURFnet’s Computer Emergency Response Team, investigates and coordinates all cases of security breaches that seem to come from institutions connected with SURFnet or which affect SURFnet customers.
